Helping & Celebrating!

The Alliance will host two events this month, and we’d love to see you at either or both!

On Monday, July 5 (9-11 a.m.), Friends of Lake Chabot and Vallejo Watershed Alliance volunteers will meet at the Dan Foley Community Park boat launch to help the park recover from the long weekend of Independence Day parties and celebrations. Each year, hundreds of people come to the park to celebrate and watch the Six Flags fireworks, and a significant amount of extra litter accumulates around the shoreline.

On Saturday, July 17 (9-noon), we celebrate you! Vallejo Watershed Alliance volunteers are invited to join us for a Thank You Lunch at Blue Rock Springs Park (lake picnic area). We start at 9 a.m. with an easy cleanup around the lake and park if you want, and have an early lunch to thank you for being with us throughout the year and helping make Vallejo a cleaner and safer place. If you can’t make it to the cleanup, you’re still welcome for lunch at 11:00, we’d love to see you. Please RSVP to Info@VallejoWatershedAlliance.org to let us know you are coming, so we can be sure to have enough food for all.

Restoration in Hanns Park

Please join us on Saturday, June 19 from 9 a.m. to noon, to support a habitat restoration project along Blue Rock Springs Creek.

Location: Park in the Wardlaw Dog Park lot. Follow the path behind the dog park. Cross the bridge over the creek and turn right (west) along the path. Shortly after you cross under Oakwood Avenue, you’ll see our site at Mile Marker 0.69.

More Info: Wear comfortable clothes, sturdy shoes, hat, sunscreen, and gloves. We’ll bring water, refreshments, and tools. To RSVP or for more information, email Info@VallejoWatershedAlliance.org.

Creek Cleanup!

Join the Vallejo Watershed Alliance on Saturday, May 15 from 9 a.m. to noon. We’ll meet at the corner of Fairgrounds Drive and Coach Lane to clean Rindler Creek. Wear comfortable clothes, sturdy shoes, gloves, hat, and sunscreen. Water, refreshments, and supplies will be provided. A waiver will be required; if you are under 18, you’ll need to get it signed by a parent or guardian. We can send you one in advance if needed, simply email Info@VallejoWatershedAlliance.org. See you there!

In the meantime, check out the Lake Chabot User Survey — we’d love to know how you use this gem of a lake in Dan Foley Park. It’s quick and easy!

Vallejo’s Earth Day

April means Earth Day, and we’ve got choices!

Saturday, April 17 from 9 to noon, we’ll be planting native California roses at Lake Dalwigk. Wear comfortable clothes and sturdy shoes, hats, gloves, masks, and sunscreen. RSVP to Info@VallejoWatershedAlliance.org. Park on 5th Street near Lake Dalwigk Park and walk down the steps, you’ll see us at the picnic area.

More options: We’ve always partnered with Solano County for April Earth Day cleanups, and this year is no different! DIY Cleanups are happening, and we are offering four different sites so that all Vallejoans can participate in a nearby cleanup:

North Vallejo: Delta Meadows Park at 841 Jack London Drive

South Vallejo: Carquinez Park on Adams St. near Patterson Elementary

West Vallejo: River Park at 485 Wilson Avenue

East Vallejo: Hanns Memorial Park at 198 Skyline Drive

You can download the CleanSwell app and track what you pick up, or simply email us at Info@VallejoWatershedAlliance.org with the info below. Here’s how it works:

1.     Pick a day and time that you and your household or social-bubble-safe friends will pick up trash.

2.     Email Info@VallejoWatershedAlliance with your preferred cleanup location.

3.     Need supplies? We can provide disposable gloves, trash bags, hand sanitizer, waiver and loaner pickers, and we’ll be happy to drop them on your porch.

4.     Leave the filled trash bags next to the garbage cans at the park. Once your cleanup is complete, let us know how much trash was removed (# of bags filled + any other items that are too big for the bags, and how many people were there). We love photos – send us a couple of you in action! We will notify GVRD and they will dispose of the filled bags.

The usual rules of COVID apply: Don’t do this if you feel ill or have a fever, face coverings are strongly recommended, keep at least 6 feet of social distance with people who aren’t in your household, and sneeze or cough into a tissue or your elbow.

Have fun, and keep in touch!

March at the Lakes

March brings two group events, and continued DIY Cleanups. On Saturday, March 20 from 9 a.m. to noon, we’ll partner with Leadership Vallejo and the City of Vallejo to clean up the shores of Lake Chabot. You’ll enter through Dan Foley Park, drive straight ahead and meet at the boat launch. On Saturday, March 27 from 9 a.m. to noon, the Alliance will return to Lake Dalwigk, to begin the final planting season of this 3-year restoration project. Park along Fifth Street, and come down the steps near Lake Dalwigk Park. For both events: We’ll stay safe and socially-distanced. Wear comfortable clothes, sturdy shoes, mask, gloves, hat and sunscreen. Tools, water and snacks will be provided.

Not ready for a group activity? We understand completely! DIY Cleanups are always an option — simply email us (Info@VallejoWatershedAlliance.org) and let us know when plan to go to either lake and what supplies you need. We can provide bags, pickers, sanitizer, etc. and will drop them on your porch. After you’ve done your cleanup, filled bags should be placed next to the trash cans in the park on the corner of Lemon and 5th Streets. Just let us know how many trash bags you filled, and when they’re ready for pickup.

See you at the lakes!

Back to the lake!

Spring wildflowers at Lake Dalwigk

This month, the Vallejo Watershed Alliance is returning to Lake Dalwigk. Join us for a cleanup on Saturday, February 20 from 9 a.m. to noon. This is the first time we’ll have met in a while, and we’ll keep everyone safe and socially-distant for this event. In addition to trash removal, we’ll be raking mulch around the new trees to protect them and help retain the nice rain we’ve been enjoying. Wear comfortable clothes, sturdy shoes, mask, gloves, hat and sunscreen. We’ll provide water and snacks, and any of the necessary tools. We’ll meet on the 5th Street side, walk down the steps near the park on the corner of Lemon Street and look for us.

Happy Holidays!

Happy holidays!

Thank you all for volunteering with the Vallejo Watershed Alliance this year. It’s been a challenging one — but filled with rewards as well. Volunteers stepped into DIY Cleanups without a hitch, helping remove an amazing amount of trash from Vallejo waterways. We plan to continue the DIY Cleanups into the new year, until we can safely meet together again. Best wishes to you and your families for a safe and healthy holiday season!

DIY Yes, Group Cleanup No

Due to Solano County moving back to the most restrictive COVID-19 tier, we have decided to stick with DIY Cleanups for the rest of November, but we are cancelling our planned November 21 cleanup at the Vallejo waterfront. Even though we’d been planning ways to keep safe and social distance for the cleanup, the new restrictions argue for staying safe and separate for now. We miss you all, and can’t wait until it’s safe to get together again. If you have any questions, please contact us at Info@VallejoWatershedAlliance.org.

Great Time to be Outside!

The weather is incredible, and it’s a great time to get outside. This month, the Watershed Alliance is offering a couple of volunteer opportunities, including our first get-together since this crazy COVID thing started. We will still host DIY Cleanups, but we’re also teaming up with the North Bay Ploggers for a safe cleanup along the waterfront. Here are the details:

Saturday, November 21 at 9:00 a.m. Meet us at the north end of the Ferry Building/Front Room parking lot on Mare Island Way. We’ll spread out and cover the waterfront for this cleanup. Wear closed-toe shoes, comfortable clothing, mask, hat, sunscreen and gloves. Bring a trash picker if you have one. We’ll provide supplies, sanitizer, snacks and water.

All Month We are focusing this month’s DIY Cleanups on Hanns Park and Delta Meadows Park. You pick the location, day and time of your cleanup and email Info@VallejoWatershedAlliance.org with the info. Need supplies? We can provide disposable gloves, trash bags, hand sanitizer, waiver and pickers, and we’ll be happy to drop them on your porch.

For all events, the rules of COVID still apply: Don’t do this if you feel ill or have a fever, face coverings are strongly recommended, keep at least 6 feet of social distance with people who aren’t in your household, and sneeze or cough into a tissue or your elbow.

DIY Cleanups Are Back!

Be a Watershed Hero!

Vallejoans are doing a great job staying safe while enjoying the outdoors and helping keep our waterways clean. The DIY cleanups that we debuted in April will continue over the next few months: we’ll suggest a cleanup location or two, and provide whatever supplies you need to make it happen and report back. In October, we are going to focus on Dan Foley Park (the Lake Chabot shoreline) and Lake Dalwigk; in November we’ll pick up litter at Hanns Park and Delta Meadows Park. Here’s how it works:

1.     Pick a day and time that you and your household or social-bubble-safe friends will pick up trash.

2.     Email Info@VallejoWatershedAlliance with your preferred location, day, and time.

3.     Need supplies? We can provide disposable gloves, trash bags, hand sanitizer, waiver and pickers, and we’ll be happy to drop them on your porch.

6.     If you’re borrowing pickers, let us know when we can retrieve them from your porch.

The usual rules of COVID apply: Don’t do this if you feel ill or have a fever, face coverings are strongly recommended, keep at least 6 feet of social distance with people who aren’t in your household, and sneeze or cough into a tissue or your elbow.
