The Alliance has two great events in July:

Cleanup volunteers

On Sunday, July 9, from 9 a.m. to noon, we’re meeting in Dan Foley Park at the boat launch for a cleanup on Lake Chabot. We’ll be tackling both shoreline and the water itself, so feel free to bring a canoe or kayak if you’re going to be on the water. Otherwise, bring a bucket for the bank cleanup if you have one. Wear closed toe shoes, sturdy clothes, hat, sunscreen and gloves. This event is a partnership with the Alliance, Vallejo Flood & Wastewater District, Greater Vallejo Recreation District, Friends of Lake Chabot, Solano Sierra Club, and the Solano Resource Conservation District. On Saturday, July 15, from 9 a.m. to noon, we’ll be meeting at Blue Rock Springs Park for a cleanup of the lake and celebratory BBQ. Each year, the Alliance recognizes and thanks our volunteers with an easy morning in the park, followed by burgers, veggie burgers, hot dogs, and all the fixings. Habitat restoration projects along the Blue Rock Springs Creek Corridor need your help before summer! Park in the Wardlaw Dog Park lot. Follow the path behind the dog park. Cross the bridge over the creek and turn right (west) along the path. Shortly after you cross under Oakwood Avenue, you’ll see our site. Wear comfortable clothes, sturdy shoes, hat, sunscreen, and gloves. We’ll bring water, refreshments, and tools. Email Info@VallejoWatershedAlliance.org for more details.

Rindler Creek cleanup volunteers

Saturday, May 13

9:00 a.m. to Noon

Rindler Creek flows out of the hills to the east of Vallejo, down into Lake Chabot. It attracts a fair amount of trash, unfortunately, and it’s time for a spring cleaning!

We’ll meet at the corner of Fairgrounds Drive and Coach Lane. Wear sturdy clothes and shoes, glove, hat and sunscreen. Bring a bucket if you have one. We will provide tools, trash bags, water, and refreshments. To RSVP, email Info@VallejoWatershedAlliance.org.

The Alliance celebrates Earth Day twice in April!

On Saturday, April 15, we join more than 30 other vendors and organizations at our Earth Day Festival, which takes place from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Farmers Market on Marin Street between Georgia and Virginia. The free fun includes jugglers, face painting, kids activities and music, Loma Vista Farm, and much more. Our table will feature Critters of Lake Chabot! Need more info? Please join us for a creek cleanup on Saturday, April 22 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Park at the Wardlaw Dog Park, then follow the path behind the park and across the bridge. Wear comfortable clothes, sturdy shoes, hat, sunscreen, and gloves. We’ll provide tools and refreshments. Cleaning up Blue Rock Springs Creek is a  great activity for the whole family! Dan Foley Community Park : Boat Launch

Kids are coming to Lake Chabot soon for the Youth Fishing Derby, and we need your help with a little shoreline improvement so they can reach the water. Wear sturdy clothes and shoes (waders if you have them), hat, sunscreen, and gloves. We’ll provide water and refreshments, as well as any tools that are needed. Flyway Festival

Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 11-12 from 9 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The San Francisco Bay Flyway Festival is an annual celebration of the return of shorebirds, waterfowl, hawks, and songbirds to our area. This free event focuses on the ecosystem we live in and the wildlife that inhabits it. There will be exhibits and interactive activities provided by more than 75 nature and kid-oriented organizations.Stop by the Vallejo Watershed Alliance table at the Wildlife Expo. If you are interested in helping staff the table and talk to visitors about the work of the Alliance, please contact us at info@VallejoWatershedAlliance.org, and we’ll find a shift that works for you. The event will take place, rain or shine, at Building 221: 880 Walnut Avenue on Mare Island.

RAIN UPDATE: The weather forecast calls for an early shower, but drying up after that so at this point unless the forecast changes dramatically, the work day is a GO.

Third time’s a charm! We were rained out in November, so we’ll finish this project with your help on Saturday, January 21 from 9 a.m. to noon.  You can make Hanns Park even more inviting by helping us with the path through our native grass meadow. Park in the Hanns Park lot (on Skyline off Redwood) and follow the signs up the bike path. Wear comfortable clothes and sturdy shoes, hat, sunscreen, and gloves. We’ll bring tools, water, and refreshments. See you there!

It’s time to refresh the bark path in the native grass meadow, so that park visitors can enjoy it and reduce damage to native plants. We’ve weeded, now it’s time to spread out the bark! The event will take place on Saturday, October 22 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. We’ll meet in Hanns Park (entrance lot is on Skyline off Redwood Parkway). Wear comfortable clothes, sturdy shoes, hat, sunscreen, and gloves. We’ll bring water, refreshments, and tools.

Join hundreds of Vallejo residents along beaches, lake shores and creek banks. There are 20 sites all over Vallejo. You can join the Vallejo Watershed Alliance site at Fairgrounds Drive/Coach Lane, or you can call (707) 645-8258 to find a site near you. Everyone can help! It’s easy and fun. The event will take place Saturday, September 17, from 9:00 a.m. to noon. A free lunch for volunteers will take place at the Vallejo Marina Office at noon.

Every year, Alliance volunteers gather to celebrate the work of the year at Blue Rock Springs Park. This year, the event will take place on Saturday, July 23. You can spend an easy morning picking up trash around the lake (come at 9 a.m.); or just come for a burger or hotdog at 11:00 a.m.

This is your party! If you come for the lake cleanup, wear comfortable clothes, sturdy shoes, hat, gloves and sunscreen. All volunteers welcome. Lunch is free, but PLEASE RSVP to (707) 654-1943 or email info@VallejoWatershedAlliance.org so we know how much food to prepare.
