Happy New Year!

The Vallejo Watershed Alliance is excited to start 2023 with two terrific events! [UPDATE: Due to weather-related issues, the proposed Jan. 14 event has been postponed. A new date will be announced soon.]

This is the best time of year to put native plants in the ground! On January 21, meet us at Glen Cove Waterfront Park, along with the Solano Resource Conservation District, GVRD, and the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, to plant native grass and other plugs in the soft ground. To RSVP, please email Info@VallejoWatershedAlliance.org.

Meet us at Glen Cove Waterfront Park (120 Whitesides Drive). The event will run from 9 a.m. to noon.

Please wear sturdy clothes, closed-toe shoes, hat, sunscreen, and gloves. Volunteers under 18 will need a waiver, signed by a parent or guardian. Email Info@VallejoWatershedAlliance.org for more information.

Happy Holidays!

Happy holidays and grateful thanks to all of you who worked with the Vallejo Watershed Alliance in 2022.

With your help, the Alliance hosted cleanups and habitat enhancement projects at Glen Cove Waterfront Park, Lake Dalwigk, Lake Chabot and Hanns Park, along Rindler Creek and Blue Rock Springs Creek. We celebrated with you at a summer BBQ at Blue Rock Springs Park, hosted an informational meeting on the expanded projects and exciting new grant funding at Lake Dalwigk, hosted a Coastal Cleanup Day site, and more.

2023 will bring many more events and changes. Mark your calendars now for Saturday, January 14, when we’ll partner with the Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Leadership at Hanns Park (upper end) to remove vegetation and reduce wildfire risk. We’ll continue the restoration work at either Lake Dalwigk or Glen Cove Waterfront Park on Saturday, January 21 — more info on both to come in the January email.

As many of you know, after 18 years I am retiring from Vallejo Flood & Wastewater District at the end of the month. I’ll still be around, helping to bring my replacement on board and introducing all of you to smooth the transition. It’s been an amazing journey, and I am humbled by the gifts of your time, energy, joy and ideas — going all the way back to the creation of the Alliance in April 2005. I look forward to seeing more growth, more projects and most importantly, more of you in the years to come.
